- The company is founded in Chicago on the 1st of October 1927 by successful insurance agent, Arthur Gallagher. In the 1930s Gallagher helps to create the Retrospective Rating Program of The Hartford Group. The program rewards customers when losses are reduced. Gallagher also writes the first large-deductible fire policy for Bowman Dairy Company in Chicago.
- After the Second World War, Gallagher’s three sons join the company.
